“_______ will never understand”, “_______ feel incomplete”, “_______ want to be enlightened.” Without a personal pronoun, what sense do these sentences make? The words are understood, but to whom do they apply? Who doesn’t understand? Who doesn’t feel complete? Who wants to be enlightened? Me? You? Him? Her? It? Us? Them?
Without a subject pronoun, any story that follows loses all relevance. It’s not till there is a subject that a story becomes applicable, that it seems to carry any weight. Without a particular to be applied, whom a story can be built around, there are just random words with no power to effect anything or anyone. Without the words ‘I’, ‘You’, ‘He’, ‘She’, ‘It’, ‘We’ and ‘They’, stories would lose all significance, for there would be no one to whom they’d apply.
