What is an ‘I’? Are you an ‘I’? What is thinking of itself as an ‘I’?
‘I’ is a word. Words are ideas. The word ‘I’, is an idea.
Are you an idea? Ideas are created in the process of thinking. Thinking therefore can not BE the idea which has been created and sustained in thought. Thinking creates ideas, but the process itself is not an idea.
If you take yourself to be an idea, an ‘I’, what’s thinking that? How could whatever’s currently thinking, be the idea which has been created through that very thinking? There is no way to accurately define whatever’s thinking, because that definition is only an idea created through thinking. It’s not ideas that are thinking thoughts, but thoughts which are thinking ideas.
Without an idea of who or what’s thinking, there is just thinking. Thinking which is free from suffering. Free from bias. Free from artificial restraints. Free to see things clearly as they are rather than how they should be.
