Do you have the desire to know your true nature? How do you know of this desire? Ponder that for a second. In what way has this desire been made known to you? Is it by means of thoughts which you are hearing? What do they say? Why are they interested in this? What do they hope to gain? What feelings accompany them? Investigate this, pay attention and listen to what they have to say and how they feel. Who are you listening to speak these thoughts? Who is it that feels limited and desires freedom? More importantly, if you are listening to these thoughts whom seek enlightenment, and are investigating them, who are you that’s seeking to understand the thoughts? Can these thoughts and feelings be you, if you are the one hearing them, observing them and looking to understand them? Is there even a person there, or are they just merely thoughts? Without you, how would these thoughts be heard? How would they be known? As thoughts come, who or what is there present in order to receive them? Who or what remains present as they depart? If you remain present, then how could the person being portrayed in thought be you?
There’s no need to push thoughts away, fight with them, or attempt to stop them. Rather, investigate, remain a detached but interested observer to thoughts and feelings, and you’ll come to realize that you are not your thoughts and never have been.
